As it's not possible to make an IP address invisible (you need an IP
address in order to surf the Internet), to hide your IP address in Windows
Vista really means to change it. And that can either be to someone else's
IP (e.g. a relay server such as a proxy), or simply to something other
than what your IP was previously.
This particular article will describe the process for updating your ISP-issued IP address to a new one, in effect "hiding" whatever your IP address was previously. Motivation for doing this usually involves privacy issue. For example, perhaps you want to visit a website without the operator knowing that you visited previously. Or perhaps you notice a lot of targeted ads on web pages which make it obvious that marketers are tracking your surfing patterns.
Whenever you follow the steps below to hide your IP address in Vista, be sure to also delete your browser cookies, as they can also be used to track you.
IMPORTANT: We do not suggest using this technique often, as your ISP may have policies limiting the frequency of IP renewal. Therefore, unless you've received permission directly, stick with infrequent use of this technique only. If you require more flexibility, please check out our homepage.

STEP #1 - If you have a router:
- Switch your router AND your modem OFF.
- Disconnect the router cables.
- Plug the cable from your modem directly into your computer.
- Restart both the computer and modem.
- Wait a minute or so for your Internet connection to come back.
- Surf to a couple websites to confirm that your connection is back
online.
* If you have any problems, restart your modem and computer again. Then disable your Local Area Connection. Then (re)enable your Local Area Connection. That should get your connection back.

- Go to iPrivacyTools.com/my-ip-address/ to check your current IP address (for comparison purposes later).
STEP #3 to hide IP address in Windows 7 and Vista
- Go to your START menu, enter "cmd" in the white box (don't include the quotes) and hit Enter.

- In the left-side pane, click the link for "Manage network connections"
STEP #9: Reset your connection
- Select your "Local Area Connection",
Right-click it, and choose "Disable".
- Wait 10-15 seconds.
STEP #10 to hide IP address in Windows 7/Vista:
- Once more, right-click on "Local Area Connection" but this time choose "Enable".
- Wait 30-60 seconds. This is an IMPORTANT step. Do not try to proceed before giving it some time.
STEP #11: Confirm the changes
- Click refresh on iPrivacyTools.com/my-ip-address/ to verify that your IP address has changed.
Be sure to delete your cookies before surfing off, otherwise your efforts to shake off trackers will probably be wasted.
*As mentioned above, do not use this technique often unless you've received permission from your ISP. If you need more flexibility, visit our homepage.
